Henry has had an interest in psychological theory and practice for much of his life. Prior to qualifying at the University of Bolton in 2014 (BSc.hons Psychology, 2-1), Henry supported his mother (Sue Hope-Borland, Consultant in Forensic and Clinical Psychology) and the family business (HBA) by assisting with the business administration. Henry developed a solid skill base and confidence in liaising with solicitors and clients, diary organisation together with other administrative skills. Since qualifying he has worked part time as an Assistant Psychologist, gaining much knowledge and essential insight towards procedure, assessment and therapeutic intervention.
In August 2018 Henry joined Hope-Borland Associates on full time basis as Director and Assistant Psychologist. Prior to this Henry worked in the financial sector rapidly becoming responsible for managing of a team of 16 individuals, whilst studying for accountancy qualifications. This work experience was invaluable, and Henry utilised learned skills to expand and develop HBA’s business interests; and introduce HBA’s Therapy Service to individual members of the public and referred clients alike.
Henry has completed supervision in aspects of assessment and is experienced in administering and supporting clients in completing psychometric tests such as the WAIS-IV (Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale IV) and the HCR-20 V3 (The Historical Clinical Risk Management–20 Version 3). Henry’s extensive experience in customer relations has ideally equipped him to formulate a lasting and supportive therapeutic alliance with clients, as is his experience as a Psychologist in documenting life and case histories.
As an assistant Psychologist, Henry has worked in a variety of settings including an Independent Rehabilitation Hospital (Mental Health) in North Wales and in various prison settings. He has experience in working with complex patients and clients with severe mental illness, personality disorder and learning disability. Under supervision, Henry has undertaken cognitive behavioural therapy with patients and learnt about formulation and assessment procedures.
Henry has had the opportunity in working within a multi-disciplinary team and gained experience in formulation behavioural risk management plans. He has assisted other clinicians (at the hospital) in running anxiety management groups, mindfulness relaxation and personal development.
Henry is engaged in supervised therapy supporting vulnerable clients (in various settings) including volunteering for ‘Lifeshare’; helping homeless & vulnerable people aged 16-25 across Greater Manchester.
Henry is passionate about patient/client welfare and believes that everyone should have timely access to support if needed. Henry (as all the associates at HBA), work in a compassionate person-centred manner with a multimodal approach that is integrative and tailored to meet the client’s needs.
Currently Henry is studying ABC Level 3 Counselling Skills at the Manchester College and has applied for the PgDip Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies; working towards accreditation by BABCP. Henry is a Member of the British Psychological Society and abides by the society’s ethics and codes of practice.
